Public Lands No. 2 p.74 — Kincade / McLaughlin / McIntosh annotations and Big Nancy recurrence — OHC_2459 source jacket Historical object Photographed manuscript page 74 of the source-titled Public Lands return. The visible heading reads `Public Lands — No 2 Form of a Return — Continued — Location under the Choctaw Treaty.` This is one face in a larger continued return. The available digital face does not by itself establish the complete historical packet, district boundary, or later roll-up rule. Source / representation / custody Two stored files named `OHC_2459.pdf` were materially checked: 1. Drive ID `1X8CwXKPm0uBsvKCmP5puX7gKHzw4U3av` — parent `Source objects — received batch 1 — OHC 2408–2518`, folder ID `1qBiU33LC1FXr2n7X1CrvtNrx7qennMdA`. 2. Both PDFs are 259,743 bytes. Direct byte comparison in this pass found them byte-for-byte identical, SHA-256 `f68ee509cbed355cdfe483b90031686a7a49efa80e2cdec9e9149568f8959499`. They are two custody routes to one digital payload, not two independent witnesses. Reading method The PDF was opened directly from Drive, rendered at 300 DPI, and inspected visually. Temporary crops/enlargements were made from that rendering to read the lower rows and locality field. Those inspection derivatives are not source objects and are not retained as historical evidence. Direct source observation Near the bottom of the face, three consecutive named rows carry explicit worded category annotations in the `Locality of Farms` field: - `Andrew Kincade` — `1 slave]` followed by `Tombecbe`. - `Walter McLaughlin` — `1 white]` followed by `do`. - `John McIntosh` — `1 white 5 Slaves]` followed by `Tombecbe`. The category words are handwritten inside the locality field rather than in a separately printed white/slave column. Taken only as arithmetic on those source-visible labels, this page contributes a lexical subtotal of 2 white(s) and 6 slave(s). That subtotal is a transcription aid only. It is not promoted to a district total, census total, household total, or legal status determination. WITHDRAWN / SUPERSEDED — the earlier bounded pass reported no other explicit `white`, `whites`, `slave`, `slaves`, `black`, or `blacks` wording; later direct-source return found r09 exact `6 Blks.` See the correction addendum below. Finding Page 74 directly demonstrates that a single row-level annotation can combine a white count and a slave count (`1 white 5 Slaves]`). It also demonstrates singular and plural category language on neighboring rows. The marks coexist with the printed cultivation/family/age/locality structure rather than replacing it. Inference — kept separate The layout is compatible with a secondary administrative counting or classification layer placed over the printed return, but page 74 does not identify the annotating hand, date, instruction, purpose, or whether every such mark feeds a later aggregate. The word `slave` beside a named row does not by itself establish the legal owner, household relationship, residence, or the identity of the enslaved person or persons counted. Crossing earned by direct source comparison Adjacent manuscript pages 75 (`OHC_2460`) and 76 (`OHC_2461`) were independently opened in the same Fieldglass pass. Page 75 carries explicit `1 white]` and `3 whites]` annotations. Page 76 carries `white`, `slave(s)`, and one explicit `Blacks` label. These are legitimate structural comparisons because the faces are consecutive pages of the same source-visible continued return; they remain separate historical faces. The page-76 lexical variation is load-bearing: this jacket does not treat `Blacks` as automatically equivalent to `Slaves`. Uncertainty The locality spelling is preserved here as `Tombecbe` from the direct face. No attempt is made to normalize it to a modern river name. The meaning of the closing bracket-like marks after category phrases is preserved graphically as `]` without assigning a formal notation rule. Explicit nonclaims This jacket does not establish: - that Andrew Kincade, Walter McLaughlin, or John McIntosh are identical with same-name occurrences elsewhere; - that the category numbers are household membership counts; - that the named row-holder legally owned the enslaved persons counted; - that page 74 belongs to the same district roll-up as manuscript page 60; - that absence of a category word on another row means historical absence of white or enslaved persons; - that `Blacks` and `Slaves` are interchangeable categories. Correction history No earlier faithful page-74 source jacket was located in bounded Drive searches for `OHC_2459` and `page 74 OHC_2459`. Train/receipt references were treated as navigation/technical derivatives rather than source-facing readings. If an older equivalent historical-object jacket later surfaces, this jacket should be reconciled rather than allowed to multiply the object. Maker: Fieldglass Date: 2026-09-06 FIELDGLASS LANDSCAPE ADDENDUM — BIG NANCY RECURRENCE ACROSS pp.71 AND 74 — 18 SEP 2026 Direct source return Fieldglass returned to the archival OHC_2459.pdf face governed by this jacket and independently to OHC_2456.pdf / manuscript p.71. On p.74, the Oclacubbe occurrence carries the literal Locality-of-Farms wording `Near Military road. Big Nancy`. On p.71, a separate military-road locality chain begins `Near Military road. good running water.` and the next row carries the dependent wording `On do below Big Nancy 6 miles.` The p.71 jacket already controls the `do` dependency and keeps the inherited military-road reading separate from the literal manuscript. Cross-page relation earned Within the same continued Public Lands No. 2 return, the exact source string `Big Nancy` now recurs on manuscript pp.71 and 74 in locality material that also carries `Military road`. This earns a CROSS-PAGE RECURRING ANCHOR / OPEN COMPARISON. It is stronger than a single isolated name occurrence and gives Mapping Grounds a clean retrieval corridor for later historical road/place sources. Do not strengthen the relation. P.74 does not say what kind of thing `Big Nancy` is, and its punctuation does not by itself prove that Big Nancy is a point on the military road. P.71's `below ... 6 miles` does not define compass direction, downstream direction, measurement method, or geometry. Repeated wording does not prove that the two occurrences denote one historical referent, though that comparison is now source-earned and worth testing. Map / film consequence Carry Big Nancy as an UNPLACED NAMED ANCHOR with two separately sourced page occurrences. Do not draw a road segment, six-mile radius, route, settlement point, residence, or travel path. The films may let the phrase recur as part of the source's own landscape vocabulary if useful, but staging must not resolve what the source leaves unnamed. R02 independently rewrites `Tombecbe.` and then adds a second aligned component, `6 miles below Youngs Bluff`. The source-written period after `Tombecbe.` and the doubled dittos below it preserve two positions rather than one continuous place-name phrase. The distance/directional statement belongs to the r02 farm/locality occurrence. The face does not say that Tombecbe itself is six miles below Youngs Bluff. R03–r06 continue both positions by dependency; they do not independently attest Tombecbe, Youngs Bluff, or four additional six-mile relations. IDENTITY / MAP GATE Carry r01 as one bare row-local `Tombecbe` occurrence. Carry r02 as a second explicit bare-locality occurrence, exact `Tombecbe`, plus one separate row-centered relation: `6 MILES BELOW` → exact `Youngs Bluff`. Keep the two Tombecbe occurrences, the Youngs Bluff referent, the meaning of `below`, the measurement method, and all geometry OPEN. Do not create a Tombecbe–Youngs Bluff place-to-place edge, merge r01 and r02, multiply either component through r03–r06, normalize either name-form to a modern feature, or draw a point, line, route, six-mile buffer, farm parcel, residence, or travel path. The source does not write an expanded word, so this jacket preserves the abbreviation rather than silently replacing it with `Blacks`. DERIVATIVE CORRECTION Both Quoin text copies transcribe this component as `6 Bills.` They duplicate one derivative reading and add no witness. `6 Bills.` is WITHDRAWN / SUPERSEDED for r09; the manuscript controls as `6 Blks.` The jacket’s earlier statement that no additional black-category wording appeared on p.74 is likewise WITHDRAWN / SUPERSEDED. Its earlier arithmetic of `2 white(s)` and `6 slave(s)` remains only the subtotal of the three lower labels then read; it is not a complete page-level category-word subtotal. FIELD / SOURCE-STATE GATE `6 Blks.` is an explicit abbreviated count/category annotation inside the printed locality field, not a geographic phrase. Its placement strengthens the already observed administrative overlay behavior on this face, but the page still does not identify the annotating hand, date, instruction, purpose, roll-up rule, or the people counted. Do not convert the abbreviation into person identities, household membership, residence, ownership, legal status, or a page/district aggregate. Do not map it. The remaining r09 locality wording and its following dependency behavior remain separate source work. R10’s locality `do` continues the preceding locality component `Oxnoby`; it does not repeat `6 Blks.` as another explicit category label. The separately written `near military road.` earns one r10 row-centered NEAR relation. The source does not state that Oxnoby itself is near the military road. R09 `a good place.` and r10 General Remarks `Land poor` belong to different rows and different documentary acts. They are not harmonized into one land-quality object, surface, or contradiction. IDENTITY / MAP GATE Carry r09 as one explicit bare-locality occurrence, exact `Oxnoby`, with separate non-geographic `6 Blks.` and `a good place.` wording. Carry r10 as a locality dependency plus one proposition-local relation: the r10 farm/locality occurrence NEAR exact `military road`. Keep Oxnoby identity, road identity, and all geometry OPEN. Do not create an Oxnoby–military-road place-to-place edge, treat `6 Blks.` as a place or repeated r10 category count, turn `a good place.` or `Land poor` into mapped quality surfaces, or draw a road, point, proximity area, parcel, residence, or route. They therefore provide two explicit row-local attestations of the same exact bare locality form and two explicit row-centered NEAR relations to exact `military road`. Neither row states that Oxnoby itself is near the road; the relation belongs to the farm/locality occurrence on that row. The exact repetition permits comparison but does not merge the two Oxnoby occurrences, prove one place entity, or identify either road wording with r10 or another page. R13 then changes to doubled dependency marks. It does not independently attest Oxnoby, the road, or a third NEAR relation. Its General Remarks `do` likewise continues the separate qualitative register rather than joining `Land poor` to a place name. IDENTITY / MAP GATE Carry two explicit source occurrences, r11 and r12: each has bare locality `Oxnoby` plus a separate proposition-local relation, SAME ROW NEAR `military road`. Carry r13 as dependencies only. Keep all occurrence identity, road identity, modern identity, and geometry OPEN. The source therefore does not write the phrase `Running water creek near military road` and does not establish a watercourse-to-road edge. R15 depends on both locality positions and the separate General Remarks register. Its marks do not independently attest a creek-form, military road, NEAR relation, or land assessment. R25 and r26 retain that locality by ditto; they do not independently attest Tombecbe. R25 independently writes `Near J. James.` in General Remarks. That placement still carries one row-centered proximity statement, but it does not make the locality name its grammatical subject. The source does not say `Tombecbe is near J. James.` R26’s blank General Remarks cell is active evidence. It prevents the r25 James relation from carrying forward even while the separate locality ditto continues Tombecbe. OCCURRENCE / MAP GATE Carry one explicit r24 bare-locality occurrence, exact `Tombecbe`, followed by locality dependencies at r25–r26. Carry one r25 proposition-local relation: the r25 farm/locality occurrence NEAR exact `J. James`, with the James referent and all geometry OPEN. Carry no second James relation at r26. Keep `Land tolerable good` qualitative and separate. Do not create a Tombecbe–J. James place-to-place edge, infer that J. R25 still earns one row-centered NEAR relation to exact `J. James`; r26’s blank General Remarks cell still prevents that relation from carrying forward. R28 and r29 retain that locality by ditto; they do not independently attest Boguechito. The direct face therefore controls the working label as `Boguechito`, not the earlier provisional `Boquelito` used outside this jacket. The separate `80` is acreage only. `Prairie land - tolerable good.` is a qualitative General Remarks statement. Its wording does not name a prairie, define a tract, or supply a mappable surface. The r28–r29 remarks dittos are dependencies on that statement, not two additional explicit qualitative attestations. OCCURRENCE / MAP GATE Carry one explicit r27 bare-locality occurrence, exact `Boguechito`, followed by locality dependencies at r28–r29. Keep the Boguechito referent and all identity and geometry OPEN. Do not multiply the locality or qualitative statement through the ditto rows, merge Boguechito with a modern feature or another name-form, convert `80` into parcel geometry, or draw a point, tract, prairie area, quality surface, residence, route, or boundary. R31–r33 retain that locality by ditto; they do not independently attest Tombecbe. R34 then independently rewrites `Tombecbe` beside a category annotation and therefore closes this dependency chain. The r30 acreage and General Remarks remain separate documentary acts. `1280` is an acreage figure, while `Provided for in treaty with 2 sections.` is a row-level administrative statement. The face does not identify the treaty article, define either section, or state that a surveyed two-section parcel is represented here. R31’s blank General Remarks cell prevents the treaty-provision statement from carrying forward. R32 independently states `This place was cleared since Treaty. good land`; preserve `This place` as the source’s row-local anaphoric wording, `since Treaty` as relative time without a supplied treaty date, and `good land` as qualitative. R33’s `Prairie land` is independently written qualitative wording. Neither statement names or bounds a geographic feature. OCCURRENCE / MAP GATE Carry one explicit r30 bare-locality occurrence, exact `Tombecbe`, followed by locality dependencies at r31–r33. The source-written category annotations are not place-name components. R34 independently writes both its category annotation and `Tombecbe`. R35 independently replaces the category annotation with `1 white]` while its following `do` retains only the Tombecbe locality position. R36 independently rewrites both `1 white 5 Slaves]` and `Tombecbe`. The two General Remarks dittos at r35 and r36 sit beneath the coordinated r34 wording `Good land and good water`. They continue that compound qualitative statement by aligned dependency; their number and alignment do not create two independently authored remarks, a named land feature, or a named water feature. OCCURRENCE / MAP GATE Carry r34 and r36 as two explicit row-local Tombecbe attestations. Carry r35 as a Tombecbe dependency only. Preserve each category annotation in its own row as source language; do not make it a locality, identity, household, ownership, residence, or legal-status proposition. Keep `Good land and good water` qualitative. The acre figures remain row values only. Do not merge either Tombecbe attestation with another row or page, multiply locality or remarks through dependencies, convert acreage into parcels, or draw land, water, tract, residence, household, or category geometry. R10’s locality `do` continues only `Oxnoby`; it does not repeat r09’s category count. CORRECTION HISTORY The two Quoin text copies’ r09 `6 Bills.` and r34 `Island Tombeche` do not control. Direct inspection restores r09 `6 Blks.` and r34 `1 slave] Tombecbe`. The earlier three-label subtotal `2 white(s) / 6 slave(s)` remains valid only for r34–r36 and is superseded as a complete page subtotal.
