Three related instruments make different documentary dimensions perceptible without strengthening the source beneath them.
The jacket is not the instrument. It is the carried memory that lets the instrument change without making the Workshop forget how it changed.

The jacket did not precede the invention. Documentation caught up as other hands made the idea more real.
A perceptual-machine idea became clear enough to catch in a soft body, but not clear enough to force into production.
The concept was put down where another mind could encounter it without inheriting an assignment.
The idea acquired visible mechanics. It became something a person could actually inspect rather than merely discuss.
Machine one and two could work together. A third neighboring machine appeared when the direction was reversed.
The Workshop recognizes its inventions as things with lineage: low attachment, high attention, enough trace to inherit.
Try the simplest specimen. Nothing historical changes when you press a button. Only the distinction in front of you changes.

Trace is the path through states. It is not the same thing as lineage, and it does not claim every later carrier preserved every earlier proposition.
